FAQ

WHAT IS A BURR ON A SKI EDGE?

A hanging burr can be formed which may feel like a razor sharp corner. This can create hooking of the edge and unexpected edge action. Burrs on your ski edges cause drag and slow you down on firm snow; so, getting rid of these abrasions can help them perform their best.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY SKI EDGES ARE SHARP ENOUGH?

Check the sharpness by dragging the back of your fingernail lightly across your edges. If the edge scrapes away some very fine shavings it's sharp enough.

WHY IS THERE RUST ON MY SKIS?

Rust is quite common on ski edges, it means that you most likely stored them somewhere wet and did not wipe them dry after skiing. But it can also mean you did not wax your skis after your ski holiday!

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO TUNE BRAND NEW SNOW EQUIPMENT.

New skis and Boards are more prone to catching edges in the end of a turn. That’s because when the tips and tails aren’t de-tuned, you have almost too much edge and the transitions from turn to turn become more difficult.
New equipment leaves the factory floor with square 90° edges, that means the angle between the base and side edge is 90° .
For better edge grip and easier turning equipment it is essential to get the base and side edges tuned to less than 90°, most common tuning angles are 1° for base edge and 2° for the side edge although race skis are often tuned to 3° or 4° for the side edge to give it a much more aggressive edge grip and performance.
